Whether you are looking for style, privacy or both, choosing window treatments if often a daunting task. Should you do your shopping online, at a home center or specialty blind shop? How sheer or formal are you wanting to go with them?

Amount Of Light and Privacy

How much light and privacy do you require? You need to determine whether your preference is for the room to be on the airy and bright side or shuttered up and more cozy. What is you main goal? Is it having heavy curtains hanging in your bedroom to get a good night sleep or is it having sheer curtains hanging in your kitchen to allow the light to shine over your sink? Are the windows that you are needing to cover close to the front door of your house or do they face the side of your house where the sun shines in? These factors all help to determine which fabrics and styles will suit your home the best.

Budget Considerations

Does just one window need covering or your whole house? You might want to allocate more of your overall budget on specific windows and then scale back on others. How much window treatments cost is determined by size, therefore larger treatments will of course be more expensive. Other factors that can increase the cost include custom sizes, patterns, fabrics and other specialty features.

What amount of time and effort do you want to spend on cleaning

You can clean standard blinds at home, however they do require frequent cleaning and tend to be magnets for dust. Fabrics and shades with textured weaves hide soil better. To tend to these issues the best thing to do is vacuum or have them professionally cleaned.

Your Decorating Style

Do you have a formal, comfortable, casual or chic style? Bold colors may be amusing or striking. Subtler hues are ideal for rooms decorated in earth or neutral tones. Are corded, sleek cordless or streamlined styles the best?

Safety

Does your household include any young children? If yes, you may need to install streamlined cordless blinds and shades.

Good Housekeeping Blinds and Shades

If you’d like to be able to able to adjust your blinds to let in the sun (or not) then blinds that have tiltable slats is probably the best option. These are ideal for both dens and offices. They tend to not be the best choice for bathroom and kitchens, where damage can be caused by moisture (select polymer or faux wood instead), or in living rooms and bedrooms if you are looking for an effect that is more romantic and soft.

Insulating blinds may also help with conversing energy and filtering or blocking light. The GH insulating blinds that we are offer are available in 15 different colors, ranging from Sage over to Natural Linen.

Exterior and interior blinds both help with reducing solar heat gain and at the same time maintaining your preferred elvels of ventilation, privacy and light. Reflective blinds (white as well as near white) can decrease heat gain up to 45 percent on sunny windows when lowered and closed.

Outdoor Blinds

Frequently exterior blinds are more effective compared to interior blinds. Unlike interior binds, heat is blocked by exterior blinds before it gets through the window to heat the room up. Adding them onto existing windows can be tricky, so using them on new construction tends to be better. As time goes on the cost of outdoor blinds sydney will reduce as the volume of orders increase due to their increasing popularity.

Drapes

Drapes can help to insulate your house in the summer against solar heat gain and in the winter from heat loss, depending on their color and fabric weight.

Medium-colored drapes with a white plastic back can help to reduce solar heat gain by as much as 33 percent when they are kept close during the year’s hottest months. A tight seal is needed for maximum performance, like with other types of window treatments. You need to hang drapes up to the ceiling and then down to the floor or hung from a cornice. Position them as near to the window as possible.

Awnings

Awnings provide a home’s exterior with added personality as well as excellent protection against the sun in areas that have hot weather regularly. Exterior awnings can reduce increased solar heat up to 65 percent on a south-facing window and up to 77 percent on a west-facing window.

Roof Overhangs

Roof overhangs work very similarly to how awnings do. When they are designed properly, during the summer the right roof overhang blocks solar heat out and in the winter allows in desirable heat to warm up the interior of the house. Consult with an architect or a designer with passive solar design experience. The professional with consider different factors like latitude, climate and window size.

High Reflectivity Film

Given the film’s high reflectivity, the DOE suggests that it be used in areas with short winters. The film reduces heat gain over the entire years, including in the winter, where solar heat can be a benefit.

Silvery, mirror-like film is more efficient compared to transparent film. On big windows, high reflectivity film is quite effective.
